Company health plan for employers

A company health plan adds to statutory health insurance. It does not replace it. This page sets out what must be decided before you promise it to the team.

Best fit audience: Owners, managing directors, and HR leads reviewing health as a benefit

What to expect

  • What a company health plan is for, and what it does not do.
  • The order: aim, budget, group, contract, and only then the message to the team.
  • A reminder that the benefit-in-kind limit hits payroll every month.
  • Links to the existing employer overview. Its figures are not repeated here.

Core focus areas

  • The group, and an objective rule for who is in it
  • The employer as policyholder
  • The benefit-in-kind limit and other benefits in the same month
  • What happens when someone leaves
  • How this differs from the occupational pension

Decision outline

  1. Name the aim: retention, cover, or both.
  2. Set the budget and the group before the team hears about it.
  3. Settle who the policyholder is, and what happens when someone leaves.
  4. Let payroll and the tax adviser see the classification.
  5. Announce it only after that.

Common mistakes

  • Emailing the team first and sorting the tax question afterwards.
  • Describing the plan as a replacement for statutory health insurance.
  • Quoting savings or prices that are not from your company and not from the contract.
  • Treating the premium apart from that person’s other benefits in kind in the same month.
  • Promising a tariff name before scope and acceptance are clear.

What to do this week

  • Write down the problem the plan is meant to solve.
  • Check which benefits in kind already run today.
  • Decide who signs and who owns payroll.

FAQ

Is a company health plan compulsory?

No. Statutory changes to co-payments do not require an employer to set one up. It is an optional employer benefit.

Does it replace statutory health insurance?

No. It is an additional group contract. Appointments, waiting periods, and pre-existing conditions sit in the tariff, not in this overview.

Does the whole workforce have to be on one contract?

No. A subgroup is possible when the rule is objective and written down. Personal preference is not a rule.

Why does the benefit-in-kind limit matter?

Tax and social-security treatment depends on the employer paying, employees having no choice to take cash, and every benefit in kind for that person staying inside the statutory monthly allowance. Going over it can turn the whole month into taxable pay. This page does not quote the euro amount. Payroll and the tax adviser check the figure in force.

Can existing salary be converted into the plan?

That is the uncertain case. Settle it with the tax adviser before anyone on the team is promised a tax-free benefit.

Who should be in the decision?

The person who signs, and the person who owns payroll. The tax adviser does not have to sit in the room. They should see the classification before anyone claims a tax exemption.

Does this page list module prices?

No. Topics such as dental, a budget, or hospital cover belong in the conversation. Prices, the tax position, and acceptance rules sit in a specific offer, not here.

How does this relate to the occupational pension?

The health plan is cover for today. The pension is provision for later. Many employers look at both. They stay two promises, each with its own payroll and contract logic.

Where is the longer note on sick leave?

On the existing employer page about absenteeism, and in the published company-health article. This pillar does not repeat their statistics.

Is this an offer?

No. It is orientation. A contract exists only after a specific offer.
